Division of Biological and Environmental Science and Engineering (BESE)

Driven by Discovery - Identified by Impact

The Biological and Environmental Sciences and Engineering (BESE) Division provides a unique opportunity to unite technology with the sciences, to promote engineering-inspired solutions to address challenges related to water, food and the environment.

BESE's mission is to create an enabling platform and intellectual space for knowledge and advanced technologies through research that is tightly aligned with KAUST's three research missions (food, water, and the Red Sea).

To accomplish BESE’s mission, the Division aims to develop interdisciplinary science and engineering approaches for environmental quality management. Research in the Division is organized around three focal areas: 1) water and wastewater sciences and engineering, 3) crop biotechnology and engineering, and 3) marine science and conservation. Education is provided through three programs: 1) Environmental Science, 2) Plant Science and 3) Marine Science.
